How to write it so that they will read it

Stop the scroll with your words

It is a challenge that most writers face…how to produce content that readers will actually read.

In a crowded market, getting your work read is even harder than ever. Readers have so many choices and so little time to take in the flood of information coming at them every day.

But isn’t the point of putting words to paper having them read? As writers aren’t we creating work that tells a story, inspires, or educates?

Certainly, it isn’t simply the goal to put words on paper, or on a website…just to fill a space.

The words you write matter….and when you write well, they can change the course of a business.

Whether your writing is for a business, for your blog, or for the next great novel…if it isn’t interesting and offering something new, it won’t be read.

The five steps you need to take to stop the scroll

  1. Know your reader. Understand who your reader is and help them solve a problem. Does your reader want to learn more about a product? Are they looking for love and want to find the romance novel you just created? Knowing who you are speaking to when you begin to write is essential to crafting work that your reader will want to read.

  2. Get the words right. Ok, so this one should be obvious. Proofread your work to be sure that every word is spelled correctly. Then, check your grammar! If you aren’t writing in your native language or aren’t confident about your word choices, use a tool like Grammarly to help.

  3. Optimize your content. If your work is to be used online, like website content, special posts, or in a blog…take time to research keywords and then use them in the work. Choosing relevant keywords is a step that many writers skip, and one that ends with no readership on a piece. Get found on search engines…and get your work seen.

  4. Start with a great headline. Want to “pull” people into your story and inspire them to read it? Write a headline that they can’t miss. Speak to their pain point, tell them what they will learn and watch the readership numbers go up!

  5. Write about what you know. In its latest algorithm, Google acknowledges the importance of the E.A.T. principle. The acronym stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness and Trustworthiness. Your work will be penalized in the rankings if these elements aren’t found by the search engine when it is ranking results. There is so much knowledge that you can share…use that to engage your audience.

Writing can be fun, profitable and…well, if not easy, at least satisfying. Follow these steps and soon you will see the views of your written work go up, and you might even rank higher on search engine results.
